In the 1861 census, John is now a widower residing with his son Thomas and family:
John died at Worthington on the 10th March 1867, his actual death certificate states he was aged 81 at the time of death though it was certified by a neighbour - Ann Smith, not one of his family - his actual age was 75 which is listed on the burial register at Breedon on the Hill, 13th March 1867: He died of heart disease.
