Tivey Family Genealogy
John Tivey Born 1792
JOHN TIVEY, 3rd son and 5th child of Mary Fairbrother and Edward Tivey, is our direct ancestor. Our earliest discovery of John was his marriage in 1811 at Breedon on the Hill, Leicestershire. From evidence gathered we have discovered that John was born in Melbourne, Derbyshire and like his father before him (Edward 1753-1794) farmed the land between Melbourne and Breedon. He settled in the Leicestershire village of Worthington (home of his ancestors) but his young family evidently moved about around in search of work frequenting Melbourne, Breedon, Staunton Harold and the Derby Hills regions as illustrated in the map below:John married ANN EDWARDS the daughter of Thomas Edwards and Frances Shakespear(e) of Roper's Farm, Staunton Harold. They married at Breedon on the Hill (St Mary & St Hardulph): Their first child Thomas was born at Staunton Harold, second child Frances was born in Melbourne, Derbyshire, more than likely at the home of John's mother Mary. The next two children Jane and James were born at Staunton Harold, the birthplace of their mother, whilst the remaining children were born in the Leicestershire village of Worthington.
John & Ann had the following children:
