Sir-John-Proctor-Tivey
John Proctor Tivey was born 1882 New South Wales to parents Margaret Proctor and Samuel Tivey. Sir John was awarded a Knighthood in 1955 for his contribution to engineering and industry in Australia. He graduated from the University of Sydney and became a lecturer in Engineering at the University of Queensland in 1911. In 1913-1928 he was an Engineer with General Electric becoming Chief Engineer with the company between 1929 and 1945, when he was promoted to Director. At various points in his working career, he was chairman of the Technical Standards Division, President of the Electrical Manufacturers of Australia, President of the Institution of Engineers and President of the Associated Chambers of Manufacturers.
