Samuel Tivey was the son of Sally Dolman and Edward Tivey a framework Knitter and occasional agricultural labourer in Melbourne, Derbyshire, England. He married Phoebe Wild in Derby 1833 and in 1848 he and Phoebe and their children Joseph, Alfred, Sarah Ann, Elizabeth and baby Harriet set out for a new life in Australia arriving on the ship Bermondsey at Two Folds Bay. They took up land at Moles Station, Nimitybelle in the Bombala, Monaro region of New South Wales  where they remained for the rest of their days. Joseph the eldest, moved to Victoria in 1851 along with his brother who returned to New South Wales. Thanks to Cathy Priestley for this photo from her father's collection (Donald Robinson 1924-2004)
