Robert Newton Elliot was born in Kellsoe (Thornley), County Durham, England in 1856. In 1881 he married Ellen Amelia Tivey the youngest daughter of Samuel & Phoebe Tivey in Bombala, New South Wales. Robert is listed in the Australian Archives as inventing or improving many items including Hair pins, Hat pins, Strap Buckles, Tin cans, Envelopes, Pens and Rulers. He and Ellen had 7 known children - Ethel Sutton Elliot (Mrs Felix Kirk (1st)1882-1915) Blanche Wadsworth Elliot (1883-1907) Victor George Elliot (1885-1890) Roberta Margaret Elliot (Mrs George Clerk 1887-1941) Nellie Amy Elliot (Mrs Felix Kirk (2nd) 1889-1972) Robert Bruce Elliot (1891-1916 A I F, KIA WWI) and Clive Elliot (1897-1963).
