Elizabeth-Tivey-Nee-Smithered-Formerly-Cook-(Perkins)-Death-Notice
The above notice appeared in the Leicester Chronicle 24th February 1854 The Mrs Tivey it mentions is Elizabeth the 2nd wife of Edward Tivey. She was the mother of Thomas Cook of travel agency fame. She was born Elizabeth Perkins in Melbourne, Derbyshire, her first husband being John Cook, Thomas' father. She later married John Smithered in 1814 and then Edward Tivey in 1833 Derby. She ran the Temperance Hotel in Derby for a number of years.
