Edward Tivey

Thomas and Jane's youngest son was Edward Tivey, born 1753 in Melbourne, Derbyshire. Edward was a husbandman by trade - A tenant farmer who cultivated the land - i.e. he didn't own the land, but farmed it and sold the goods he grew or animals he reared to make a living whilst paying a land rent to the owner of the land.

In 1776 He married Mary Fairbrother. I have yet to determine Mary's parentage but I suspect she was the daughter of Christopher Fairbrother and Mary Geary who married in Aston On Trent but were residents of Melbourne later or connected to the various Fairbrother families of nearby Breedon on the Hill. **Edward - It is thought that Edward was the father of Thomas Tivey who married Mary Bailey in 1826 but so far I have not discovered his wife's name: *William - there were two William Tivey's born in Melbourne around that time. One was the son of Edward and Mary, the other was the son of William Tivey born 1763 Melbourne and his second wife Ann Holme. For this purpose, I have not included the marriage and death details of William.

Edward died in Melbourne in 1794, Mary remained a widow and did not remarry, she may died over 40 years later in 1836, Melbourne or she may have remarried in Melbourne 1796:

The next pages are quick outlines of the trees of Edward & Mary's children, they are covered in much greater detail throughout the site elsewhere. I have then concentrated on our particular line of Tivey's descended from John born 1792 in Melbourne:
