Thomas and his new wife Jane Johnson settled in the Market Town of Melbourne, Derbyshire - approximately 2 miles from Worthington and Newbold though in those days it was probably closer still, with only fields separating hamlets and towns and villages: The map below gives some indication of the town of Melbourne and it's surroundings in 1700.
