Here is a rather dashing photograph of
Reginald Tivey of Group 9. He was born
in Melbourne 1896 and as a youngster was known as “Rip” or
“Young Rip”. He was the younger son of Samuel Tivey (1870-1947)
of Melbourne, Derbyshire, and Elizabeth Smith(1866/7-1916), of
Castle Donnington, Leicestershire.
Reginald had an elder brother, Ernest (b.1894), and two sisters,
Harriett Elizabeth (1891-1971) and Florence (1898-1976), all of
whom married and had children. As well as excelling in sports,
Reginald also proved to be very talented in the arts, especially
in music and, later, painting. He was in the choir of Melbourne
church, often singing as a soloist, and in addition sang
occasionally in Lichfield Cathedral and the new cathedral of
Derby. Photo and text was kindly donated by Anon |
