Phoebe Tivey
nee Morris was born 1805 in Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire to parents
James and Elizabeth Morris. In 1826 she married Isaac Tivey, a
Tailor. They resided in Tutbury where their first child
William was born before moving on to Birmingham, Warwickshire
and later Bilston, Staffordshire.
Mary Ann Tivey was their next born (Mrs Henry Vickers Mayer
1829-1911 followed by Henry (1834-43) then Elizabeth Tivey (Mrs
William Daniel Wright 1836-1906) , their son Francis was born
in 1838 and died in the USA. Their second to youngest
child was James Tivey (1841-1881) followed by the youngest Joseph
Kingswood Tivey (1843-93) who is featured in the photograph with his
mother Phoebe (also listed as Phebe). Joseph
Kingswood Tivey was a tailor by trade as his father
before him was, in 1866 he married Janet Agnes
Fisher in Dudley, they were blessed with 11 children, several of
them being born in Glasgow, Scotland bewteen
1876 and 1882. His mother Phoebe died in Dudley 1874. Joseph passed
away in Wolverhampton in 1893. The photograph was taken around 1844
and is one of the earliest photographs in the Tivey collection. It
belonged to Elizabeth May Tivey (1924-2014) and was kindly sent to
me by Alison Tivey Kydyk of Canada, her neice.
