Philip
Ascot Tivey was born during the first world war (1915) in Walton On
Thames, Surrey to parents Charles Ascot Tivey and Louisa Blunt who
married in London 1901. He was the youngest of 7 children, the
others being Victor Charles Tivey (1902-1921) May Louisa Tivey
(1905-1966) Isabel Tivey (Mrs George Huckstepp 1906-1997),
Irene Tivey (Mrs William Gregory 1908-1993) Jessie Tivey (Mrs
Herbert George Smith 1910-1976) Agnes Elizabeth Tivey (Mrs Alfred
Percival Stratford then Walter Charles Savage 1913-1988).
Philip worked as an Engineer for British Airways, a career that took
him all over the world initially. His first marriage was to an
Indian/British national Betty Elsie Blanchette in 1940, the marriage
taking place in Meerut. She gave birth to a daughter Gillian
in December 1941, tragically Betty and Gillian were killed days
later when Sumatra was attacked in WWII, the boat they were trying
to escape in was torpedoed and Betty and Gillian lost their lives.
Philip married his second wife Kathleen Curtis in 1946 and they had
one child Jane (Mrs R Le Masurier) a few years later.
After the marriage broke down he moved to Richmond in Surrey and met
and married Rosemary Dyer, a work collegue, they moved to Dorset
after retirement where Rosemary is still a church leader. Philip
passed away in 1991. The baby Philip is holding is his great niece
Debbie Smith (Bubley), the granddaughter of his sister Jessie Tivey
(Smith). Debbie was born in Australia and moved to the USA where she
has 3 sons. Thanks to Jennifer Boers and Cal Vittali-Smith for their
help with Philip's life-story and continued support.
