Joseph-Tivey-News-Article

This article appeared in the Australian newspaper The Argus, published in Melbourne, Victoria on Thursday 22nd June 1893. It tells of Joseph Tivey's suicide. Joseph was a native of Derby, his father Samuel, who was born in Melbourne, Derbyshire, England; and his mother Phoebe (nee Wild) emigrated to Australia in 1848 when Joseph was 14. The rest of the family settled in New South Wales but Joseph followed gold prospectors to Victoria and set up a supplies business where he made his fortune selling food and grog to the gold hunters. See HERE for a photo of Joseph.
