Jane Tivey Born 1816

Jane worked as a lace runner and a domestic servant before falling pregnant at the age of 19. The parish records at Worthington St Matthew's do not record the father's name - this was not unusual at the time, if the father would have been named then there would have probably been "Bastardy Papers" drawn up by the parish and he would have been responsible for the child's upkeep through the church wardens and overseer's of the poor. He would have also been responsible for the mother's "lying in" - more details on Bastardy Papers can be found HERE.

Jane and the unnamed father had the following child:

Name Date Place Married Date Place Died Place
Joseph 1835 Worthington Sarah Frogson 1866 Swanwick 1901 Burton on Trent

In the 1841 census Jane can be see along with her son Joseph in the household of her parents in Worthington, Leicestershire: She is listed as being aged 25

On the 14th June 1846, Jane married the widowed Abraham Frearson at St Matthew's Church in Worthington. Abraham was a local farmer who had 4 children (surviving) from his first marriage to Mary Jacques. The witnesses to the marriage were Lovett Frearson (the Parish Clerk) and Thomas Tivey, Jane's older brother.
