Born George Arthur Frederick Tivey in Fulham,
London, Middlessex, he was known by his first name of George and
was the fourth of eleven children born to parents George Thomas
Tivey and Emily Jane Jacobs. In the 1911 census he was employed
as a florists clerk and residing with his parents at 35
Quarrendon Street, Fulham. He was still residing at this address
when he
married Florence Ellen Ames at St Barnabas Church in
Battersea in 1915. Unfortunately George's army record was lost
in the WWII bombings of the War Office but we know from his
medal card that he he first joined the Royal Flying Corps
before transferring to the Army and joining the South
Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed during the
Second Battle of Paschendaele on 13th October 1917. The
photographs of George's resting place and of the memorial
plaque, scroll and medals were all supplied by Doug Scarrett and
I would like to personally thank Doug for
for his time and informative
guidance with regards to George's military information.
