The local police and magistrates found him in Manchester  in 1880 and ordered him before the court where he was jailed for one month with hard labour for neglecting his family, it wasnt the first time he had reportedley been before the bench for neglect. After his release, Mary Ann and Francis fled to the USA with their 3 children, a further 2 children of the couple were born in Connecticut USA. Lucretia died in 1919 in Walton on Thames Surrey, she worked as a seamstress all her life to support her family after Francis absconded.
