This
lovely lady is Elsie Madeline Tivey who was born 1896 in
Wolverhampton, Staffordshire to parents Louis Albert Tivey and
Elizabeth Mary Done. Elsie Madeline was the second child and
eldest daughter, her father Louis Albert Tivey worked as a
cycle maker, eventually becoming a factory foreman and working at
the Raleigh Factory in Nottingham. Elsie married Frederick
William Hill, a local man who worked at John Player for years and
during the war had been a stretcher bearer. They married at
Radford Parish Church, Nottingham 14th February 1918. Their only
child, a daughter Mavis Jessica Hill (Mrs Ernest H Mason, divorced
1950) was born in 1922. Frederick sadly passed away in 1940
from cancer. Elsie helped bring up her granddaughter Glenys Mason
after her parents divorced. She is remembered with great fondness by
Glenys who has been a great help contributing certificates and
documents regarding her branch of the Tivey Family.
