The seated lady next to the Groom is Ellen Amelia Tivey who was born 31 October 1853 in the Bombala region of New South Wales, Australia. She was known to the family of the bride as Maum. There are probably other Tivey descendants on here - Ellen's parents were Samuel Tivey and Phoebe Wild of Group 3 who emigrated to Australia along with 7 children on the ship Bermondsey in 1848, starting the Journey in August of that year and landing on 09 December 1848 at Twofold Bay to begin their new life. The couple took up land at Nimitybelle and settled as Graziers. Ellen and her brother Samuel were both born in NSW. Ellen went on to marry Robert Newton Elliot (1856-1903) who was also an English immigrant originally from Kelloe, County Durham. The couple had seven children, the Groom Clive, being the youngest. This photo was taken in 1923 in Mosman, NSW on the wedding day of Clive (1897-1963) and his pretty bride, Nona Russell Cousins (1898-1980). She was the grand daughter of Edward C Cousins (the first mayor of Bathurst) and Myra Helena Lloyd. The couple have two children, both born in Fiji, Margaret Winifred Elliot and Marion Ethel Elliot. A BIG THANK YOU to Gregory Ross, Nona & Clive's grandson for this photo and details of the couple's lives. |
